While bulimics may have low levels of serotonin, other studies indicate that anorexics have high levels of neurotransmitters in some areas of the brain. For example, researchers in London found that anorexics have an overproduction of serotonin, which can cause a continual state of acute stress and anxiety. Reducing their intake of calories to starvation level, which in turn leads to decreased levels of serotonin in the brain, may result in a sense of calmness. The exact relationship between serotonin and anorexia has yet to be clarified, however. Researchers are still puzzled as to why, if anorexics already have high levels of serotonin, then SSRIs medications like Prozac which raise serotonin levels are successful treatments for some individuals. These scientists speculate that that there may be different subtypes of this disease, and that different groups of anorexics may have different neurochemical characteristics.

The researchers note that ON is currently more prevalent with yoga instructors, dietitians, nutrition students and exercise science students compared to the general population, where it is estimated to be less than one per cent.
As well as this, the Independent reported on a paper last week which points out that Instagramming our food can have an effect on later enjoyment. Over exposure to food through looking at it or taking photos makes you bored of the food before you’ve even began eating it, with the eating becoming secondary to the perfect filter online. Is It Just a Phase? People who have gender dysphoria feel strongly that their gender does not match their biology. For example, a person who has a penis and all other physical traits of a male might feel instead that he is actually a female. That person would have an intense desire to have a female body and to be accepted by others as a female.
Feeling that your body does not reflect your true gender can cause severe distress, anxiety , and depression.

Posted by nightblinkers Wanted to let everyone know that I am over 4 months stable and still off of medications. There is success with this condition. I am truly thankful to God for this, because in all honesty, without the Lord, I couldn’t have made it through those difficult times, and having the courage to even try to stop meds after over 14 years of being medicated would have been too much for me to even consider. I remember those times sitting in my room in the dark sad, angry and agitated and full of anxiety, just thinking how much easier it would be to just give up.
I have been in mental institutions and can understand just how hopeless it can seem, but don’t ever give up. We can be healed and have normalcy. Unfortunately, many people who get better, no longer post on sites afterward, just leaving us with a sample of people who all seem to be failing with this disorder. So I write this for those of you who are giving up hope; don’t give up, keep on fighting, in all the darkness you are enduring, there is a light if you hold on.
It always frustrated me to read so many stories of failure or just holding on, or somewhat stable yet the people were still lacking any happiness in life.

However, where Bipolar Disorder consists of cycles of manic high and depressive low symptoms, Unipolar Disorder does not. Patients who suffer from Unipolar Disorder are true to its name in that they only have symptoms at one end of the spectrum the low end. There is a major distinction between a person who is going through a rough patch and may be unhappy and a patient that is clinically depressed.
Depressed people are typically unaffected by happy moment. Their mood does not lift in response to the people and the events that surround them. They often remain apathetic and emotionally unresponsive. But, whatever the name, patients that suffer from this disorder experience significant disruption in their work, social and family life.
They no longer enjoy the things they used to do and may become withdrawn, hopeless and overwhelmed.

Depression has a loud and convincing voice that dominates the minds of those who suffer from it. No one is perfect, so sometimes the person you want to be with happens to have this illness. It can be difficult to resist arguing about how they view themselves and their lives. This means accepting your partner as they are. It means letting them have negative, painful beliefs, even when you really want them to see things differently.

Definition Personality traits are enduring patterns of perceiving, relating to, and thinking about one’s environment and oneself that are exhibited in a wide range of social and personal contexts. Only when personality traits are inflexible, maladaptive, and cause significant functional impairment or subjective distress are they considered personality disorders. The essential feature of a personality disorder is a continuing pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates noticeably from the expectations of the individual’s culture and is manifested in at least two of the following areas: This persistent pattern is inflexible and pervasive across a broad range of personal and social situations, and leads to clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational or other important areas of functioning.
The pattern is stable and of long duration, which means its onset can be traced back to at least adolescence or early adulthood. This pattern is not better accounted for as a manifestation or consequence of another mental disorder and is not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance such as drug abuse, medication, exposure to a toxin or a general medical condition such as head trauma.
